Nowadays people waste a lot of food that was bought from shops and restaurants. Why do you think people waste food? What can be done to reduce the amount of food they throw away?
[1] While people from third world countries suffer from famine, many people living in wealthy developed countries waste huge amounts of food. Understanding the causes of this phenomenon is important and can make us think of practical solutions to the problem.
[2] To begin with the low cost of food is the culprit of the food waste problem. Due to technological advancement, people have increased both the quality and the quantity of their crops. As a result the crop prices have dropped drastically. This enables people to buy excessive amounts of food which they do not need.
[3] Furthermore, the absence of strict regulations to stop food waste is another major cause. Not everyone is aware that wasting food may create problems. Several countries in the world saw a drop in their national food waste after implementing a ban on the excessive purchasing of food.
[4] In view of this situation, there are some approaches that can be adopted by both people and governments. To begin with, raising the public awareness of this issue is vital. Using social media platforms can draw public attention to the potential dangers of food waste and how communities can deal with it. Moreover, enforcing laws that prohibit the wasting of food by people and companies will deter such harmful practice.
[5] In conclusion, the decreased price of food as well as the lack of regulations have resulted in food waste. I believe that raising the public awareness and enforcing legislation are the solutions to this issue.
